Tryout Information

On the first tryout, please arrive an hour before to check in, receive your pinnie, etc.

Tryout #1 – Wed. April 30th 5:00-6:00 @Morgan Firestone

Tryout #2 – Thurs. May 1st 6:00-7:00 @ Morgan Firestone

Tryout #3 – Friday May 2nd 6:00-7:00 @ Morgan Firestone

· Tryouts will be run by Innovate

· Players will be provided with a tryout jersey and are responsible for bringing it to each skate. Players are to keep the jerseys at the conclusion of the tryouts

· At the conclusion of the first tryout, parents need to check my AAGHA website (tryout Callback TAB). If your daughter’s number is listed, she is invited to attend the next tryout. If her number is not listed, tryouts are over at this point, and I wish your daughter continued growth and success in hockey.

· After the 3rd tryout, the final roster will be posted by 8:00am on Saturday May 3rd.

· If your number is listed, your daughter has made the team and will receive communication from me within the next 24 hours.

Evaluations

· One quarter of the ice will be used for goalie specific drills

· From players, I will be looking for the following:

Skating: I will be looking for players who can skate efficiently and powerfully, both forward and backward. Players who can perform quick starts, stops, transitions, and the ability to perform crossovers.

Puck Handling: I will be evaluating how well players can handle the puck while skating, their ability to make quick decisions, and their passing and shooting skills.

Attitude: I will be looking for players who show a positive attitude, respect for teammates and coaches, and a willingness to learn and improve.

Effort and Work Ethic: I will be watching for a consistent effort on the ice and players who hustle, backcheck, and never give up.

Game Sense: During the scrimmage, I will be evaluating the girls’ understanding of the game, positioning, and making smart decisions on the ice.

Coaching Philosophy

· To develop a lifelong love for hockey so that players enjoy the sport and continue to play throughout their lives.

· Prioritize fun in every aspect of the game. Ensure that players look forward to practices and games, and leave the rink excited to come back.

· To build confidence and growth through positive reinforcement and individualized feedback. Helping players understand their strengths and areas for improvement.

· To instill values of respect and integrity by teaching players to respect the game, their teammates, coaches, and opponents.

· To encourage perseverance and determination. Help players understand the importance of hard work and persistence in achieving their goals.

· I am not a win at all cost coach. I prefer to develop the players’ skills and confidence while focusing on development and not the outcome. Hopefully the outcome will come naturally!

Player/Team Expectations

· Players are to treat teammates, coaches, officials, opponents and spectators with respect and kindness.

· If you are going to be absent from a game or practice, please communicate with me so we can plan accordingly. I completely understand that life happens.

· Represent Ancaster Avalanche with appropriate behavior, both on and off the ice.

· At least two adults will always be present in the dressing room. This ensures that no adult is ever alone with the players, providing a safe environment. When players are getting dressed, it will be two female adults.

· No cellphones/ image taking devices in the changeroom.

· Further information will be communicated at our parent meeting.

Team Development

· On Tuesday June 3rd we will be participating in the Ancaster Old Mill Race at Morgan Firestone Arena.

· I am hoping to secure a 10 week development session with 3D Training out of Gateway Arena with Jeremy Bloomfield for treadmill skating and shooting practice. It will start in September. I am hoping for sponsorships to cover half of the cost.

· We will be doing weekly off ice strength training and chalk talks. No additional cost.

· Additional team building events TBD

Discipline Policy

At Ancaster Avalanche, we prioritize good sportsmanship both on and off the ice. If any issues come up, we’ll address them on a case-by-case basis. My progressive discipline approach includes a verbal warning, a discussion with the player’s parents/family, missed games, suspension, and, if necessary, release from the team.
