Coaching Philosophy
|
Hi my name is Eric Lootsma and I am excited to have the opportunity to coach the U13 B Avalanche. Having coached hockey for over 20 years, to me, coaching is about fostering both skill development and personal growth, ensuring players improve not only on the ice but also as individuals. Building strong character is key, as it lays the foundation for resilience, accountability and sportsmanship. To me, the team comes first, with every player understanding their role and working together toward a shared goal. Further, success is measure not only by wins, but the development of players who carry the lessons of teamwork and hard work into all aspects of their lives. Thus, as a coach, I strive to create a positive and challenging environment to help players reach their full potential and develop a lifelong love for the game.
Ice time will be shared equally for 90% of the game. However, during key moments, playing time will be at the coach’s discretion. Putting players in the position to succeed is always the goal in mind.

Team Rules
|
ATTENDANCE: Attendance for all games and practices is expected. However, I understand that hockey is a long and demanding season. There will be times that, for whatever reason, a player can’t attend. I completely understand. Please inform me as soon as possible so that I can make call-ups if necessary. Frequent absences will be addressed, which could ultimately result in removal from the team.
CONDUCT: Treat everyone – teammates, parents, team staff, referees and opponents – with respect.
DRESSING ROOM; No cell phones or headphones are permitted in the dressing room. Parents, we will need your help re-enforcing this. For the safety of all players, the team staff will abide by the OWHA rule of a minimum of 2 adults in the room while players are present.
Further details will be communicated during the parents’ information meeting.
Failure to abide by team rules will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and could include the following: verbal warning from coaches, verbal warning with player and parents, missed shifts/periods/games, released from the team.

Summer Plan
