Evaluations and What I am Looking For

  • TEAM PLAYER - The name on the front of the jersey is more important than the one on the back.
  • Skills - skating, puck control, passing, shooting, compete
  • Work Ethic - works hard with consistent EFFORT, finishes drills completely, gives their best possible effort
  • COACHABILITY - listens attentively to instructions, responds positively to feedback, applies what has been taught to improve

Commitment

  • Practices - 1 to 2  a week
  • Games - 1 to 2 a week
  • Tournaments -  4 to 5 (subject to change) with at least 2 being an away hotel tournament
  • Travel - depends on the teams in our loop.  This will be communicated to parents as soon it is known
  • During the season, the expectation is that players will regularly attend all practices and games.  At the parent meeting, we will discuss this more in depth.

Proposed Budget

  • Rep Fees are estimated to be $2,800 per player. (this includes the AAGHA registration fee)
  • Fees may be reduced with team fundraising efforts and sponsorships

Coaching Philosophy

My approach is to treat players as people first. I like to make connections and build positive relationships with players and help them do the same with each other. If we build a strong, connected, and supportive community the hockey and competition will follow. I view youth sport as a great opportunity for our players to make new connections and learn skills that will help them in their lives such as commitment, work ethic, fitness, and fun. It definitely needs to be fun.  I view my role as a guide to help provide a structure where players are having fun, improving, and enjoy the process of getting better and competing. On the competition front, I like when teams play with a speed, compete, and team first approach. I am also not a coach who yells at players-I may yell in a game some instructions though.

Team Rules

  • Treat teammates, coaches, trainers, team staff, families, etc. with RESPECT and KINDNESS
  • Attend practices and games regularly.  If your daughter is going to be absent, COMMUNICATION IS KEY. I completely understand that important life events happen - just keep me informed.
  • Coaches expect that each player will take responsibility for their own conduct and represent Ancaster and the Ancaster Avalanche organization in an honourable way (more specific information is included in the Player Agreement to be signed once offered a position on the U15BB Team).
  • Profanity and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated
  • No cell phones/image taking devices will be permitted in the dressing room
  • For the safety of all players, team staff will abide by the 2-deep rule in situations where the players are present.
  • Further information will be communicated at our Parent Meeting

Discipline Policy

  • Failure to abide by team rules will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and could include the following:  verbal warning from coaches, verbal warning with player and parents, missed shifts/periods/games, suspension, released from the team.
  • It is important that our hockey team remains a top priority
  • The specifics of our team discipline policy will be presented and discussed at our first team/parent meeting

Proposed Fundraisers

  • TBD

Summer Plan

  • Summer Conditioning - I strongly encourage all members of my team to participate in other (NOT hockey) sports/activities during the summer months.
  • We will meet throughout the off season for team building and off ice conditioning.
  • Options will also be available to complete at home workouts.
  • We may organize some Spring/Summer skates
